Direct translation of the title (and that repetitive phrase in the song) is "What I Only Want in Life". A better sounding one would be "The Only Thing I Want In Life" but I preferred to use the former since using he word "thing" would mean quite differently... or maybe I'm just thinking too much? (?) So it's the first time that I've really seen the whole music video/promotional video and I actually have no clue what this part says. According to some websites, it says "Gusto ko lamang sa buhay ay makalasap ng kapayapaan" ---> "What I only want in life is to feel a glimpse of peace" but I couldn't really hear that. I hear something else. It's nothing close to that, so I wrote the closest thing that I could comprehend. Apologies. You can correct me anytime in the comments. Thanks.

Feeling vs. Feel I felt the need to explain this part since I always try to equate the translations and make them sound as accurate as to those in the original lyrics. The original uses "feeling" and there is no way I am translating that part as "I'm feeling as if I'm really, really rich". It also sounds right on its own, but not when you take in consideration the tense of the previous line. However, in the original language, it is accepted to use the -ing ones since it fits with the way we speak and the connotation is different compared to the English one. I'm sure it also happens to other languages, case in point, Japanese. I might be able to explain it better next time... If I still feel like doing it. It's almost 4 am and I've no proper sleep so yeah it might be because im feeling a bit unwell

At first, I thought that the song is referring to ketchup as the filling. I was about to add quotation marks and indicate that it might probably be the ketchup talking but lo! How dumb I was. I am in quite a sad mood today... Mainly because the person I like (who is in one of my classes and that class already ended for this semester... We just had our finals) already loves another. It's a known fact that my feelings will never be reciprocated but it still hurts to know, especially when they go flirting in front of me. Nevertheless, I can't hate him because he is truly a kind person and always smiles at me. But it still hurts and I'm hoping this feeling would go away. By the way, this person is gay so it's really difficult for me to intervene in his relationships since the possibility of him liking a girl is very low. Anyway, this is a pretty nice song. I'd like to note that the pronouns used in this song are genderless, therefore, anybody can sing it to anyone. The singer is lesbian (so I feel totally obligated to translate the lyrics as they are) and a really great artist. Her songs are really gooood.

tansan - it is a native term for tin, but it is also a common name for beer bottle caps
Ilang ahit pa ba ang aahitin - A play on words, ahit refers to shaving and it is actually quite odd for me to see it being used as a noun
Ilang hirit pa ba ang hihiritin - another play on words, hirit means force or strike, however, in usual conversational contexts, it refers to a person's continuous begging or reply or action. Example: "Sinabihan na kita na huwag nang magsalita. Hihirit ka pa?" = "I've told you not to speak. Will you still continue (doing it)?"

Aaahh what a nice song~ :) Hope you like it, too! It sounds so light and peaceful even though it talks about an uncertain love, never knowing if that love will be reciprocated or not. I love the singer's voice! I've seen her name in some files that my older bro kept in our desktop before, and I didn't even bother knowing who she was. I'm so amazed to know that she was the one who sung this.

Panalangin - Apo Hiking Society Lyrics & English Translation

This is a classic in the Philippine Music Industry and is considered one of the best OPM (Original Pinoy/Philippine Music). This has been used in some commercials in the country and is truly a beautiful and meaningful song. Apo Hiking Society is pure legend, I tell ya. 

A revival was done by the band MOONSTAR 88 so I included two videos for you to listen to/watch. I can't choose which is better since I really enjoy listening to old songs, but the revival isn't bad, it's actually stunning!

(1) The direct translation is "Oh yeah" but it's actually a Filipino/Tagalog expression with the same use as "Oh, I just remembered"

Kanlungan (Sanctuary/Haven) by Noel Cabangon - Lyrics and English Translation

This is my favorite song! It just sounds so beautiful. No arguments there, huh? :) Anyway, this song is a bit mysterious and uses many figures of speech, I guess. I had quite a difficult time translating it in English without messing up the song. I will be putting down some notes later. This song is full of implied meanings but when directly translated somewhat loses the value so I tried my hardest to come up with much more acceptable words. Euphemism really is useful at times, huh? :)

(1) I was trying to make the translation sound a bit formal since that's how the original lyrics were written. As you can see, this line can be rephrased. "Chances come from time to time." or "From time to time, there would be chances." or "Chances are seasonal." 

(2) The word used here was "kamusmusan" which pertains to the state of being a child or a kid. In other words, juvenile years. From my own understanding it could vary from ages 0-10. I used the term "young innocence" to describe that stage in life since that seemed to be the most fitting message from this line. 

(3) "Mangarap" means "to dream", while "tumula" in direct translation actually means "to recite poems". I used "to recite verses" here. They actually can mean the same but the one I used contains more depth when you think about it. (Or at least when I think about it. Teehee)

(4) "Pananabik" came from the root word "Sabik" which pertains to excitement. In this context however, it clearly means that "yearning" is the much better word to be used. The intensity of the word "yearning" is better used in this situation.

(5) This can also be rephrased. "Time surely passes by." or "Time is temporary." or "Time fades away."

(6) The word "Kabiyak" is used here. This means "spouse". Gender-specific terms would be wife or husband. It would sound odd if I were to use "spouse of our memories" so I used "side by side" which can also mean the same. I doubt you can use "spouse" in this context. But isn't that what spouses do - be with each other in their highs and lows? Ohoho.
