Notes

- "Kilig" - the word "rush" could not do it justice lol. It's that combination of shyness/happiness/excitement you get when you're with the one you love or whatever haha

- * - Remember that this language does not differentiate males from females. The pronoun "siya" or "sya" could refer to anyone, hence I used "them" in the next line since it's could be used as a singular pronoun too (but who am I kidding here? :/ this culture is still widely heteronormative lol but hey, you can do what you want with this song cuz the pronouns aren't that restrictive, just saying)

- "And finally part from you" - I was debating on whether I should add that the person is "willingly" or "intentionally" leaving.. Like, "I'll leave of my own accord, no need to tell me" sort of thing? Except it's sad. I dunno if that will make it sound more dramatic but that's the literal translation... good to know for y'all I guess :P

Batang-bata Ka Pa - Apo Hiking Society || Lyrics + English Translation

Here's the translation for "Batang-Bata Ka Pa" :-) The title means "You're still too young" or "You're still a child" pertaining to the innocence and naivety of being child-like or actually being a kid. Also, the use of the word "bata" twice emphasizes that "you really are still a child".

It's frequently used by older people when they reprimand someone younger than them since there's a notion that if you're young, you're bound to do things hastily which might lead to problems. I think it's because as people get older, they get more experience, therefore giving them the right to say this phrase to young people. (Well I do beg to disagree, since there are young people who are much more knowledgeable than older people, especially when it comes to social justice or technology and stuff) 

But this is a really nice song because it tells you that you shouldn't do things without thinking twice. Believe in the reminders of your parents or people older than you (who have taken care of you) because they only think of your safety and happiness.

This song actually is about boosting the morals of the youth and it's really good! It's also been used in a movie (or movies? Sorry I don't have a lot of ideas abt that) and there are a lot of covers out there, I think. (My favorite version is by Sugarfree, aside from the original)

This is my favorite song! It just sounds so beautiful. No arguments there, huh? :) Anyway, this song is a bit mysterious and uses many figures of speech, I guess. I had quite a difficult time translating it in English without messing up the song. I will be putting down some notes later. (1) I was trying to make the translation sound a bit formal since that's how the original lyrics were written. As you can see, this line can be rephrased. "Chances come from time to time." or "From time to time, there would be chances." or "Chances are seasonal." 

(2) The word used here was "kamusmusan" which pertains to the state of being a child or a kid. In other words, juvenile years. From my own understanding it could vary from ages 0-10. I used the term "young innocence" to describe that stage in life since that seemed to be the most fitting message from this line. 

(3) "Mangarap" means "to dream", while "tumula" in direct translation actually means "to recite poems". I used "to recite verses" here. They actually can mean the same but the one I used contains more depth when you think about it. (Or at least when I think about it. Teehee)

(4) "Pananabik" came from the root word "Sabik" which pertains to excitement. In this context however, it clearly means that "yearning" is the much better word to be used. The intensity of the word "yearning" is better used in this situation.

(5) This can also be rephrased. "Time surely passes by." or "Time is temporary." or "Time fades away."

(6) The word "Kabiyak" is used here. This means "spouse". Gender-specific terms would be wife or husband. It would sound odd if I were to use "spouse of our memories" so I used "side by side" which can also mean the same. I doubt you can use "spouse" in this context. But isn't that what spouses do - be with each other in their highs and lows? Ohoho.

I finally heard this song today. Many friends of mine have been suggesting this to me but I always forget about it. (I apologize since I listen to Japanese songs more often than Tagalog ones.) 

I don't know a lot about this song. I'm not that familiar with the artist and how this song came to be. I don't even know why it's called "Buko" (which is a term for the coconut fruit) but I'm guessing it's a play on the words "Buhay Ko" which means "My Life". BUhay KO = BUKO, so yeah, did ya get it? That's just my guess, ok? :)
